Where & when

  • 23 October 2025
  • The Viage, Brussels

On 23 October, Stage Magic brings a special concert to The Viage in Brussels: The Music of Genesis, featuring a carefully curated selection of songs from the 1976–1980 period. These years marked a crucial transition for Genesis.

After Peter Gabriel’s departure and with Phil Collins stepping in as frontman, the band began a musical evolution, captured in albums such as A Trick of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering, …And Then There Were Three…, and Duke. This show will include rarely performed live tracks like Eleventh Earl of Mar, Blood on the Rooftops, Burning Rope, Ripples, Say It’s Alright Joe, and Duke’s Travels.

The Farm

The performers are five German musicians who met during their studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover. In 2009, as a graduation project, they decided to play two concerts featuring works by Genesis and Phil Collins. They called themselves The Farm, a nod to Genesis’ legendary studio in Surrey.

The response to those two concerts was unexpectedly enthusiastic. Not only did the shows sell out quickly, but their performances gained international recognition through YouTube videos. Genesis fans around the world were impressed by how authentic the band sounded.

Afterward, each member went their own way and the project was shelved. But ten years later, a producer with an ear for detail discovered the old recordings and reached out. At their first rehearsal, the musical spark was still alive. In 2020, the five musicians decided to relaunch the project—this time with a professional approach and a shared dedication to the Genesis repertoire. The Music of Genesis was born: an honest, musical tribute to the sound of Genesis in the late 1970s.

The Band Members

In the meantime, each member built an impressive musical career.

  • Elmar Ferner, the singer, has a naturally Phil Collins-like voice—something he’s been told since childhood.
  • Niklas Turmann, guitarist, toured for years with Uli Jon Roth (ex-Scorpions) and is involved in several prog and krautrock projects.
  • Jochen Pietsch, the keyboardist, has worked as an arranger and musical director across diverse productions, combining precision with emotion.
  • Michael Schugardt, the bassist, transitioned from piano to bass early on and has played everything from rock to jazz.
  • Momme Boe, the drummer, began his career as a teenager in a marching band and later toured internationally with artists such as David Hasselhoff and Pee Wee Ellis. He now runs his own music school.

The Music of Genesis – The Best from 1976 to 1980 is a true trip down memory lane. The group has mastered the art of delivering these iconic songs with professional skill and heartfelt respect for the Genesis repertoire. They have deliberately chosen a period that is often overlooked in tribute concerts. The focus is on the music, with meticulous attention to detail and sound, staying true to the original—without resorting to mere imitation.
